questions you probably have

honest answers to the things you're wondering.

is this a dating app?

no. there's no app to download. inyo is a matchmaker that lives in your text messages. you talk to mavis, our ai relationship coach. when she knows you well enough, she introduces you to other people she's been getting to know in parallel.

is mavis really an ai?

yes. she's powered by the same kind of large language model as chatgpt and claude — but with a clinical methodology built specifically for relationship coaching, designed in partnership with licensed psychologists. she's not pretending to be a human. we tell you upfront because you deserve to know.

who can use this?

anyone in the united states aged 18 or older. matchmaker introductions are currently nyc-only and expanding. mavis as a relationship coach is available nationally — except in illinois and nevada, due to state ai regulations.

what happens to my data?

your conversations are encrypted at rest and in transit. they are not used to train ai models for any third party. they are not sold to advertisers or data brokers. you can delete your data anytime by emailing us. opting out of texts is one word: text STOP.

can i talk to a human if i need to?

yes. for sensitive moments — like if you're going through a crisis — mavis will surface real human resources (988, crisis text line, 911) and pause the ai conversation. inyo is not a replacement for therapy or emergency care, and we don't pretend otherwise.

what if mavis says something weird?

she's an ai. she will occasionally miss the mark. our clinical advisors review real conversations weekly and refine her methodology. you can give us feedback on any message by replying with a thumbs-down. we use that feedback to make her better.

will my matches see my conversations with mavis?

no. your conversations with mavis are private and stay private. when she introduces you to someone, she shares only a curated subset — your first name, age, neighborhood, photos you've approved, and select highlights from your onboarding answers. nothing else.

how long until she actually introduces me to someone?

usually 6-12 weeks of real conversation. mavis doesn't introduce you to people based on a survey — she introduces you when she actually knows you. that takes time. the depth of the relationship is the whole point. if you want fast matches, hinge is faster. if you want better matches, mavis is the move.

will it take more than 4 weeks to get a match?

not necessarily. it could be as little as 3 days — or it could take months. it depends entirely on how much you put into it. the more you tell mavis about yourself, your dating history, what you've been drawn to, what hasn't worked, what you want — the faster she gets to know who you actually are. the better she knows you, the sooner she introduces you to someone she's confident is a fit. think of it like this — the people who match the fastest aren't necessarily the most charming or attractive. they're the ones who give mavis enough context to do her job well. the more you talk to her, the faster you find the right person.

do i need to text her every day?

no. some users text mavis daily, some text her once a week, some only when something comes up. she'll send you a check-in here and there, but the pace is entirely up to you. she's a friend who's available — not a notification you have to manage.

is this different from chatgpt?

yes. chatgpt is a general-purpose ai built to help with everything from coding to recipes. mavis is built specifically for one thing — understanding you across months of real conversation about your relationships, your patterns, and your growth. she remembers what you said weeks ago. she notices patterns no general-purpose ai would catch. and unlike chatgpt, the entire product is designed around getting you to the right person in real life.
